Our holiday had a bit of a rough Start. When we left our apartment to walk 1/2 hour to the train station it was only drizzling. The weather app said that was all to expect. But the last 10 minutes of the walk it was pouring. We did the best we could with our raincoats and umbrellas but unfortunately my socks got wet.
We arrived at the station with time to spare and got some coffee and pretzels for breakfast. Brezel Koenig, has become my favorite pretzel place an I really enjoy their huge soft pretzel with sesame seeds.
We booked first class tickets on the train as we had huge backpacks and wanted an easy place to put them. The first class is the same seats as regular but the seat next to you is free. We got on and put our backpacks in the chairs next to us but were then told that they were too big to put in the seats. So we had to store them on the floor instead. Not really sure why, but it just seemed to be that kind of morning.
Kuah took his shoes and socks off so they could dry during the train ride. I did so after him but was reluctant to do it as I tend to be a rule follower. In this case he was the smarter one as his socks were dry by the end of the train ride and mine weren’t.
When we arrived in Salzberg it was pouring rain. So, we decided to take an Uber to our hotel rather than walk around the town. This turned out to be a great decision as our Uber driver was nice and the ride was smooth.
Our hotel ended up being super cute. Our room has a great little balcony with 2 chairs and a table. It’s were I’m sitting to type this blog. Here is the view I keep pausing to look at. Also, here’s the front of our super cute hotel.
After putting our stuff in the room we went down to lunch. I enjoyed the soup with a cheese dumpling and Kuah had a steak. Then we checked back with the desk about our hike tour welcome packet and found that there was a mix up as to who we were. We had been checked into the wrong room. It ended up being a lucky mistake for us as the floor above us has slanted ceilings and their balcony isn’t as nice.
Being exhausted we actually ended up taking a 4 hour nap and then got up in time for dinner. Kuah had these great dumplings filled with different kinds of meat. We also tried a Salzburger Nockerl which is a souffle that’s supposed to look like the mountains. Soon after dinner we went to bed and slept another 10 hours!
