When I’m on vacation I like to walk 5-10 miles a day. Often this means I get up early and do a walk by myself and then go out later for another walk with Kuah. As I’m a morning person and he’s not this works out beautifully. This blog is going to be all over the place, like my walks. I’ll start with my walk this morning, then add stuff from the past and then add in new stuff. The chronology really isn’t important so I figure, why stress?
This morning I climbed up Gellert Hill. It’s 771 ft high and overlooks the Danube. I wanted a good workout but didn’t want to walk too far. This was a pretty steep climb so although high, it wasn’t very far. Total walk from my home to the top of Gellert Hill then to a bagel shop and back home was 3.78 miles.
It was cool and cloudy this morning, making it perfect weather to climb the hill. I kept up a good pace but had a take a small rest about 3/4 up the hill. Unfortunately, when I got to the top the park with the statue was closed for renovations. Good thing I was doing it more for the exercise than the park.
I did get some great views of the city along the way. I also found a fun playground on my way down. It was about halfway up the hill. Kids wanting to use this play ground will have to put in some effort getting there.

Kuah and I walked to see Hero’s Square and then onto Vajdahunyad Castle. The funny thing about this castle is it was first constructed of cardboard and wood for the 1896 Millennium Celebrations. The people liked it so much they rebuilt it in brick and stone. I have to say it is a fun site to walk around. And it’s where Kuah and I bought Mom’s souvenir gift. Hope she likes it!

One of the things I love about walking around Budapest is all of the great architecture. I’m not sure if the people who live here notice is as it always there but it’s really wonderful for visitors to take in. I’m not sure which buildings are actually old and which have just been rebuilt to reflect the architecture of a particular time period but I really enjoy them. Here are some of the cool buildings I’ve seen on my walks alone or with Kuah.

The weather was perfect for walking as well. Not too hot or cold. It’s a nice change from the heat of Texas summers and Singapore.
