Today we had a pretty quiet day. We started off with a relaxing morning. Then we headed to out to our second and final Michelin star restaurant of the trip, Borkonyha Winekitchen. What I was really looking forward to in this one was that while you could choose a 6 course meal you could also order off the menu. I’m so picky that ordering off a menu is always preferable.
I decided to wear my hat on the way there so I wouldn’t get too much sun on my face. Unfortunately it was a bit windy and my hat blew off a few times. After one of the times it blew off we hit a stretch of shade so I decided to just carry it a bit. BIG MISTAKE. As we were continuing down the sidewalk a bird pooped right on my head!
If I had been wearing my hat it would’ve protected me. Instead, I ended up with a huge bird poop stuck in my hair. Thankfully, Kuah loves me so much that he patiently cleaned it our of my hair. It took a combination of detol, tissues and wet wipes but finally he got it all out. I felt so gross after but we had lunch reservations so we continued on.
After my bird poop experience I decided to start lunch with a glass of champagne. Kuah found a wine he had previously enjoyed in a different vintage, St. Andrea Nagy-Eged-Hegy Egri Bikaver. He decided to order it and enjoyed this one as well.
To start they brought us some bread, one was a squid ink bread and the other was a soda bread. They had smoked butter and and eggplant puree to top the breads with. They also brought out a amuse bouche. It was 2 bites each and very good. However, I don’t remember exactly what it was. I guess that’s what happens when you drink champagne.

Kuah and I both ordered the Potato Csorba Soup, Dill, Sour Cream. It was really different than any potato soup I’ve had. The broth was light rather than creamy. There were some nice pickled vegetables in it and gnocchi~ish potato dumplings. Speaking to our waiter about it afterwards he informed us that the Chef was from Romania and brought some Romanian touches to the dishes. This started a discussion on planning a trip to Romania one day. It’s fun when a dish brings up trip ideas.
For our main course we went in different directions. I got a Veal Paprikas with Dumpling, Salad. Unfortunately, being picky about meat textures I found the veal a bit too fatty and difficult to eat. Kuah enjoyed it for me. The dumpling salad was really great. The dumpling noodles were similar to what your find accompanying paprikas dishes here but the preparation of it made it stand out. It was coated in a rich broth and had lightly pickled cabbage and salted egg on top. The combination of textures and rich and light flavors made it very enjoyable. I could’ve devoured a huge bowl of it.
Kuah decided on Lamb, Bean, Pollen. This dish was beautiful to look at. The lamb was perfectly cooked and Kuah really enjoyed it. His only complaint was that he was still hungry after finishing it. So, he decided to get the Mangalica Pork, Radish, Cavier. For him this dish was good but not as delicious as his first 2 courses. I ordered the Chocolate, Green Tea, Citrus dessert but found it was better suited to Kuah’s taste so he got to enjoy that as well. It had refreshing lime flavors and a mix of fun textures as well.

When they brought the check they also have us a few last sweet treats. We ate them too fast and didn’t take any pictures of them.
