Kuah and I splurged a bit with our points and booked first class suites from Singapore to Paris. There are some things I regret splurging on but this is not one of them. It was totally worth it!!!
When you fly first class out of Changi Airport you get to go to a special Singapore Airlines first class check in area. The taxi pulled up and there were several people to greet us including one with a luggage cart who transferred everything inside for us. As we had 3 check in bags and 2 carry-ons between us this service was much appreciated.
The check in team was really friendly. I told them the trip was for our 10 year anniversary as I’ve heard that you can get something special on the plane, more about that later. One of the women was planning her wedding and we had a fun chat while the other took care of the bags, scanning passports and the rest of the check in process.
Once checked in we received our golden tickets and headed to the Private room especially for those flying first class suites on Singapore Airlines. There is another first class lounge that services people flying first class on partner airlines and who have status with Singapore Airlines. You need a golden ticket to get into the Private room. Here’s ours.
The Private lounge was wonderful. They had a little restaurant where you could order lots of delicious food. Since we arrived so early we ate breakfast, walked around the airport and came back for lunch. The food was really good. I started off with a glass of Moet & Chandon champagne and a few chocolates that you could help yourself to. Kuah and I both ordered the lobster which was served with linguine. Then I got some dim sum and he got some congee.
For the second round I had the lobster again and Kuah got the lamb. Then I had a delicious chocolate ice cream that had pieces of milk and white chocolate and almond slivers throughout. I wasn’t planning on ordering it but heard a table near us raving about it so decided to give it a try. It was worth the calories.
Eventually it was time to leave the wonderful lounge and head to the plane. When they boarded the plane about 6 other people also boarded for first class suites. However, once on the plane everything is so private if I hadn’t seen them board I never would have known they were there.
The suites were very roomy. There were plenty of places to put your bags and spread out. There is even enough space to comfortably work. Kuah and I quickly changed into our pjs so we could relax.
The dinner served on the flight was good but not as good as the food in the lounge. Kuah and I both got the lobster with cheese. Before the main course was served we had a chilled lobster with caviar appetizer, so it was a triple lobster day for me! I also discovered that I don’t like caviar, which is a good thing to discover when you’re not paying extra for it. The meal ended with a rum baba. It was all right but I’m really not sure why there wasn’t a chocolate dessert option. Maybe I should’ve asked for chocolate.
After dinner it was time to sleep. The great thing about this was that everything folded down to make a comfy double bed for us. I was lucky and got some sleep. Kuah spent most of the time watching movies. He fell asleep about the time they were preparing breakfast.
After getting some sleep it was time to, once again, eat. Breakfast was delicious as well. I had waffles with strawberries and Kuah got the Japanese breakfast. Kuah’s breakfast was served in 2 courses.
Earlier in this post I mentioned that I let them know it was our 10 year anniversary. I had read that you can get a cake for special events and I really wanted to get that cake! I made sure to tell everyone and it paid off. After breakfast we got a special dessert, champagne and a card. Of course we were already too full from breakfast to appreciate the cake but the champagne was refreshing. And it’s always good when people go out of their way to make you feel special.
