Our stay at the Yumotokan came with both breakfast and dinner. The specialty at dinner was beef. Although I don’t love beef I need iron so I was hoping it was good. The dinners were similar but not exactly the same. Both dinners came with a beef yakiniku and a beef shabu shabu. They also had an appetizer course, miso soup, rice and pickles course, sashimi course and dessert.
Kuah and I both enjoyed the yakiniku and not the shabu shabu. Yakiniku is the grilled beef and shabu shabu is the hot pot beef. Kuah also enjoyed the sashimi course. He got to eat mine and his. I enjoyed some of the appetizers and the pickles. Of course dessert is usually a fun course for me as well. Both nights they had a great jello type dessert that was really refreshing. The first night they had a mochi with cream and cocoa nibs that was amazing.

We don’t usually eat dinner but as it came with the room and was expensive we gave it a try. We were able to stay up later and enjoy the hot spring tub in our room after dinner. This was great because the outside air was cooler late at night. I’m definitely glad that we choose to get a room with a hot spring tub rather going the the general hot spring areas in the hotel.
The second day we had it down better. We skipped lunch and wore our Yukata down to breakfast and dinner. I wasn’t comfortable wearing the yukata the first evening because I was afraid I would get too hot. But as we had our own little room for meals and could take of the yukata jacket I felt better about wearing it the second night. We also skipped the rice course at dinner so we wouldn’t be eating too much late in the evening.
Breakfast was similar to dinner in that it was a set menu. You pick your breakfast and dinner times when you check in so when you get down to the restaurant it’s all laid out for you.
