We picked Mom up at the Rome airport fairly early in the morning. We weren’t sure what to expect but Mom was chipper when she came through the arrival doors. She regaled us with stories of how lucky she had been as there was a mix up with the seats and many of the people in business class ended up getting downgraded to coach.
I had made lunch reservations at Seven Restaurant Cafe for lunch at noon. It was located partway between the airport and the villa we were staying in. I wasn’t sure how the timing would work out but we ended up arriving at just about 12 pm.
We chose the restaurant as it specializes in truffle dishes. They even have truffle tours where you can go out with them and their truffle dogs to hunt truffles. We all ordered the tagliolini with black truffle. It was a great pasta and truffle dish but I was really wowed by the vegetable side dish we had. They said it was broccolini but I believe it may have been broccoli rabe. It had a simple spice in it that made it so yummy. I didn’t finish my pasta but I did finish my vegetables and took Mom’s leftovers home for breakfast.
Kuah also had the sliced beef with porcini mushrooms and truffles.
From there we continued on to our villa. Mom started to get a bit tired but there were some amazing views to see along the drive. We didn’t know what to expect from the villa but it was everything the pictures promised. There were 3 bedrooms on the lower floor and a kitchen and living area on the top floor. Two of the bedrooms had wonderful views out onto the lake. The third bedroom ended up being used for sorting and drying laundry. Mom also used it’s bathroom sink as her’s didn’t have any counter space. The soundproofing between the bedrooms gave us all more privacy.
Villa Polvese ended up being the perfect place for our stay. The kitchen was large and easy to cook in. They’ll be another blog highlighting all the things we cooked and also our cooking lesson. The views were amazing. The heated pool was a great way to relax and the first time Mom got to experience an infinity pool. It wasn’t too far a drive to many of the towns we visited which helped keep us from spending too much of our vacation sitting in the car.
