The first time I went to the 7Stern Brau I loved it! The outside was super cute with the yellow and green motif that is often seen in Vienna. We walked in from from the hot 90 degree sunny day and were instantly relieved to be in a air conditioned coolness.
The staff was a bit slow in greeting but we were able to get a table and our waiter ended up being very friendly. As they specialize in beers Kuah and I each ordered a different beer. We got one Prager Dunkles and one Marzen. We both liked the Prager Dunkles beer better. It’s the one I have in the picture below. You can see that we went with the large beers. We weren’t able to finish them both. We’re such light weights!
As the beer mugs were so big we we felt the need to order a feast worthy of them. Kuah got pork, dumplings and sauerkraut. I got chicken naturschnitzel, which is a healthier schnitzel that is not breaded.
We shared an order of the kase spetzle, which was similar to a mac and cheese. Kuah also had a soup with liver dumplings. As I didn’t want him to outdo me I ordered a desert. It was described on the menu a cream chees nougat dumplings with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. I was pleasantly surprised that the nougat they were filled with tasted just like nutella. So yummy but not sure how I fit so much in my belly!
Another thing I liked about this restaurant was that it reminded me of my brother. As soon as we walked in we saw a beer machine with bottles of the beer they brew. It reminded me of the time Dennis got excited to see the beer machines in Tokyo.
As wonderful as our first visit was to 7stern Brau our second visit was terrible. The only good thing I can say about it was they still had the air conditioning. As with the first time there was no greeting when we walked in.
However, this time the waiter was not friendly at all. They forgot to bring part of my order and the waiter started cursing when I pointed this out. The atmosphere seemed to be charged with negativity and stress. I couldn’t enjoy my food at all. It’s really amazing how much the waitstaff at a restaurant can affect the way the food tastes.
Even though we had a great first meal there and were happy to go again we will not be eating at this restaurant a third time. Thankfully Vienna has so many other wonderful places to choose from.
