Our final morning in Osaka arrived. Kuah decided to go all out at breakfast and ordered the french toast. It looked very yummy but he thought that it was a bit too soft. Overall we really enjoyed our time in Osaka and at the St. Regis hotel.
One of the things you get when you stay at the St. Regis is Butler service. When we made the reservation we weren’t sure how helpful this would be but it ended up making a huge difference, especially for me. Before we even arrived they helped us with restaurant and car service reservations. They also brought me ice packs twice a day to help with my plantar fasciitis.
The room was larger than I had expected for a city in Japan. It also had a nice bathtub, which helped balance the long walks. There was a table and small sofa to relax at when not in bed. The hotel was festively decorated for Christmas.
A few strange things. First the toilet had a glass door that you could see through a bit. The bathroom area had a wooden door so not sure why they chose glass for the toilet door. Another one, was on the last day Kuah looked at the window and saw the window washers were outside. Finally there was an emergency ladder in the room. Now this is a great thing for safety. But we were on the 20th floor so I think it’d be super scary to actually use it. I’m glad I didn’t have to try.
We had hoped to utilize the St. Regis Butler service to book a car to our next hotel but the cost was too prohibitive. Instead they helped us have our luggage couriered there. This was an affordable option we hadn’t been aware of. They picked up our luggage from our room before we checked out and it was delivered to our next hotel by noon the next day.
After having our luggage picked up we headed off to the train station. We would have about a an hour ride so we stopped at a department store in the train station to pick up a bento lunch. I ended up making my own with citrus vegetables, crab inari sushi and a salmon onigiri. Kuah had spent so much time going around with me while I picked my stuff he then had to rush to pick his own bento.
Bentos in hand we headed towards the train. We were using our Suica cards to pay so we didn’t need to buy tickets. It was a bit tough to figure out which platform to go to but we found it and headed up. We were lucky to get seats on the train so we sat to eat our lunch.
Unfortunately, once on the train they made an announcement that the train would not be going to it’s final destination but stopping in Kyoto. This would mean we’d have to change from our express train to a local train. While it was worrisome we ended up finding the local train on the same platform as the train that dropped us off. It was very crowded but Kuah got me a seat.
Once at the station we called Yumotokan and asked them to send the shuttle to pick us up. We ended up arriving at the hotel about 15 minutes before check-in. They take their check in time very seriously. They had us sit in the lobby and wait till 2 pm to escort us to our room. The lobby was full of other people waiting to check in as well.
The room was large and comfortable. The best part was having our own private hot spring tub to relax in. We went in the hot spring tub multiple times a day but it was so hot we couldn’t stay in too long. The best time was in the morning when the tub was hot and the air outside was cold.
