After a good night’s sleep in our Airbnb we headed back to Bologna to explore more and try an authentic Bolognese. We went to Ristorante L’arcimboldo for lunch. We hadn’t made a reservation but checked in 15 minutes before lunch and were able to get a table. Eating an early lunch often help with getting a table.
We started with the sphere with filled with taleggio and truffles, cream of corn and paprika. The presentation was really fun. The meal was off to a good start. Then we both ordered the Taglitalle della nostra sfoglina, which is what Americans would call a Bolognese. The presentation of this dish was beautiful as well. It was my one of my favorite dishes of the trip. The pasta was al’dente and the texture of the meat in the pasta was perfect for me. It was the perfect portion size. I could finish it without any guilt. Kuah enjoyed it but it wasn’t his favorite past dish or the trip.
From there we walked to the touristy section of Bologna. It was full of little shops and restaurants. I decided to get some chocolate but the chocolate bar I bought was not good. Kuah Googled and found a gourmet chocolate shop, Roccati Cioccolato, with great reviews nearby. When we got there they were closed for lunch but Kuah convinced me to wait in a park nearby for them to open.
I’m so glad he did as these were some of the best chocolates I’ve had in my life. They offered a variety of fruit, liquor, nut and chocolate fillings. Kuah ended up enjoying the liquor ones the best. My favorite were the cherry ones. They were so good we ended up going back another day for more.
I ended up enjoying 1 or 2 chocolates after dinner every evening in Bologna. Not sure if it’s a good thing or bad thing but they don’t ship to the US. Would I go to Bologna just for these chocolates? Yes, I definitely would!
To balance such a luxurious food day we stopped at a little health shop and got spome plant forward meals to take home for dinner.
