One of the easy day trips from Lucerne is to Mount Pilatus. The day we went it was drizzling a bit but this meant it wouldn’t be too crowded. It was just a a little under 3 miles to walk to get the cable car up the mountain. From there we stopped to warm up with a cup of hot tea. Then we went on the aerial cableway to the top.
Once at the top we could enjoy some some small shops and then do a walk around part of the mountain. From here there were great views of a small church sitting on top of another peak and the surrounding greenery. We didn’t stay too long. To get back down we took cogwheel railway, which is the world’s steepest cogwheel railway with a 48% grade.

Once we got to the bottom of the mountain we took a boat across the lake back to Lucerne. By the time we reached Lucerne the sun had decided to come out. We took advantage of it by exploring more around our area. We didn’t plan a specific place to go but ended up wandering for about 4 and a half miles. We walked up another hill and got more beautiful views. Then came back down and wandered around the city.
