Kuah and I have had luck with last minute itinerary changes. The first one we did was in 2018 when we left our Alps hike a day early to head into St. Wolfgang to relax in a posh hotel. Our latest one was leaving Bologna early to head to Genoa. Looking at Genoa online it was hard to tell if we would love it or hate it. The roads near Genoa ended up being very curvy and I was lucky I had taken some medicine or they would’ve made me very sick.
On arrival we found our hotel, Palazzo Durazzo Suites, and brought our luggage up. The hotel is located in a 16th century building and had amazing architecture inside. We stayed in the La Cupola Suite. It was all white, which I think would be hard to upkeep. My favorite part of the room were 2 single beds set up as lounges under the windows. It was a great way to relax with a view. It came with breakfast. I kept it healthy but Kuah tried lots of fun stuff. We got to sit at a table looking out at the water at breakfast which was a great way to start the day.

Genoa was a great city to walk around. They had a nice old town that wasn’t to crowded. They also has lots of great architecture and interesting shops. If you get tired of the city you can walk down by the wharf to see the ocean. There were a lot of hills to walk up and down but most of them were not steep. There was also a lot of green and plants mixed in and around the buildings.
Most of the time we were in Genoa the weather was perfect for walking outside. But when it was drizzling a bit we were able to walk in areas with covered walkways near shops. We were both happy with our last minute trip to Genoa. We saw so many interesting things in our walks and tried some great food, which you can read about in the next blog.
