On one of our final days of the trip I dragged Kuah out to St. Stephen’s Basilica. We had walked by the outside of the building several times but I wanted to see the inside. As it was a Tuesday it wasn’t very busy so we decided to go in. Once inside we were treated to gorgeous architecture including ornate artwork on the ceiling and a grand organ.

One of the more macabre things to see here is Satint Stephen’s right hand. King Stephen died in 1038. His hand has been on quite an adventure as you can see from the plaque below. Personally, I thought it looked really small and shriveled. I also think it’s weird to go see dead body parts but I might be in the minority with that opinion.

After visiting the basilica we headed to lunch. Our original lunch destination was closed so we chose another place nearby. The thing about this place was that the waiter was very enthusiastic and excited about the dishes they served. I was going to order a vegetarian dish as all the meats sounded fatty but he was so disappointed that I wasn’t trying his favorite dish I ended up changing. He told me if I didn’t like it he’d give me another dish for free. To me the food here wasn’t amazing but the experience was fun. It also gave me the opportunity to try another version of the Hungarian trifle, Somloi Galuska.

The other thing we did during the day was try to find the best hot chocolate. I’d read about a few places that were supposed to have amazing hot chocolate. The first one we went to was closed. Then we tried a place we walked by and it wasn’t very good. Finally we went to yet another place and I got a decent hot chocolate with marshmallows. Poor Kuah got dragged all over Budapest on an unsuccessful hot chocolate quest.
